[0:00] When I was making the DIY wireless LEDs I borrowed one of my friends LCR meters.
[0:05] I’ve been getting by with my cheap TCR tester - which does the job,

[0:09] but it’s not a proper inductance meter so for low inductances it will just read it as a resistor.
[0:14] Or, no component
[0:16] So I’ve bitten the bullet and got myself a dedicated LCR meter for Christmas.
[0:21] I’ve got a pretty basic cheap one - let’s see what’s in the box.
[0:25] There’s a selection of leads. We’ve got some small crocodile clips,

[0:29] some probes for testing in circuit components,

[0:32] and some very beefy crocodile clips - not sure if I’ll have any real use for these ones.
[0:37] It takes a 9 volt battery - which is not supplied - so we need to fit that.
[0:41] And with that done we can try it out.
[0:44] One of things that I liked when I borrowed this from my friend

[0:47] was these sockets for quickly plugging in components to test.
[0:50] If we try it on the coil from the DIY LEDs project we can now measure the inductance

[0:55] and get an actual value. We can also measure the resistance of the coil - it’s pretty low though.
[1:01] One quite nice feature is the tilting display,

[1:04] handy when you are using the meter under bright lights on your workbench.
[1:08] I can’t confirm the accuracy of this meter - I don’t have

[1:12] anything to compare it with apart from my TCR tester which isn’t that accurate.
[1:16] On the lowest inductance range, the manual claims plus or minus 3%

[1:21] and what I’ve read online indicates that it’s pretty accurate.
[1:24] I’ve put a link to my new meter in the description
[1:27] I’ll let you know in a few months time how well it works out
[1:30] But at the moment it’s a good cheap and cheerful product - perfect for my projects.
